Waterford FC is delighted to announce the signing of 19-year-old Aaron Drinan on a permanent deal from Munster rivals Cork City until the end of the 2018 season. The highly talented forward joins the Blues after two years on Leeside and is a major addition to the first team squad ahead of Friday’s game against Cabinteely.

Drinan, who started his career as a Schoolboy player with Carrigaline United in Cork before a brief spell at Cobh Ramblers, came to the fore as a goalscoring forward over the past two seasons with Cork City Under-19s. The striker made an impression for the Turners Cross club in the UEFA Youth League where he scored twice in four games, including a historic goal in a 1-0 win over HJK Helsinki in the First Round before also notching another in their 3-1 defeat against AS Roma in the second round.

Drinan has already starred at the RSC this season when he scored a hat-trick for Cork City in their 5-0 defeat of the Blues’ Under-19 side back in May. Drinan was also promoted to the first team squad, twice appearing on the bench in 2017 in both the SSE Airtricity League and EA SPORTS Cup.

Speaking on his move to Waterford, Drinan said:

“The team are doing really well at the moment and I like the way they are giving young players a chance to progress into the senior set-up.

“The RSC is an amazing stadium and I have really enjoyed playing there with City over the last few years. I think Waterford FC will do big things moving forward, the ambition of the club is great and I am delighted to be a part of it.

“The Blues’ fans can expect a hard working player and a striker who can run in behind as well as hold the ball up.”

Drinan will link up with new team-mates for the first time on Tuesday evening and will be eligible to make his debut in Friday’s SSE Airtricity League First Division clash away to Cabinteely.
