After a successful term as Waterford FC’s Technical Director, Pat Fenlon has agreed a new role as a consultant to owner Lee Power on his world wide projects.

Since joining Waterford FC in January 2017, Pat has led the club superbly working closely with Manager Alan Reynolds, staff and players to bring top flight football back to the city and county.

Speaking to Waterfordfc.ie, Pat said:

“It has been a great 14 months for me. When Lee asked me to take on the role it was a big challenge, but one I have thoroughly enjoyed.

“I committed for one season to help get us back to the Premier Division but when asked to stay on for pre-season to finalise preparations for 2018, I was more than happy to do that.

“Working with Alan and his staff has been great and they have all worked brilliantly to build a young and exciting team that I believe will do very well this season.

“I have been lucky to win honours throughout my career but our league win last season was right up there in terms of what it meant, primarily because the support we had from start to finish from the Waterford fans across the city and county was incredible.

“Waterford really is a special place and I will always be grateful for the wonderful memories we all shared last year. Alan is an excellent manager and a pleasure to work with. I think people who know me will understand that when I say how much last season meant, it is not just nice words; it really is a special place for football in Ireland.

“Working with Lee Power has been brilliant. His support has meant so much to the club and I was delighted to be a small part of what he is creating in Waterford. He loves the game and the club; just look at how much stronger he has made us in the last year.

“When I committed for 2017 it was primarily because of the vision he sold me and he delivered. Travelling up and down to Waterford was an experience that I will always remember with great memories and I look forward to watching Waterford FC continue to grow.

“However in my talks with Lee we have discussed a new challenge. I will be able to reveal more details in due course but it is a role which I am excited about.

“Finally, once again, a big thank you to all involved and I know that everyone at the club is ready to consolidate last season’s league title success and give our special supporters even more success in the future. Many, many thanks – it has been a privilege.”

Waterford FC owner Lee Power paid tribute to the excellent work that Pat put into the club since his appointment.

He said:

“I would like to thank Pat for all his hard work and commitment to the club since I took over. At the outset we identified Pat Fenlon, with his credentials and success in Irish football, as someone who could play a pivotal role in the re-building job required at Waterford FC and he certainly delivered in his time here with huge success both on and off the field.

“Pat is a winner who I was delighted to have on board for what was a hugely successful and memorable 2017 season. His experience helped guide the club to the First Division title and his hard work and commitment in the pre-season has prepared the club excellently for the move to full time football and the step up in quality and class required for Waterford FC to be successful again in 2018.

“Last season was great. The sense of excitement around the club towards the new 2018 season continues to grow stronger. The passion and heart shown by Alan and the lads last week in the fight back win over Derry City has started us on a Premier Division journey that I am sure we will all enjoy.”
